Using Google Tools to increase Keyword Traffic

So you are a webmaster and you are already receiving some clicks for a some keywords and you are now looking to expand on your results and improve your contents traffic. The following guide explains how using Google Analytcis, and the Google Keyword Tool and our Alternative Keywords Comparison Tool to allow you to very quickly identify new keywords to add to your content. If you have not done so already, you will need the following pre-requisites to follow this guide

  1. Create a new Google Account
  2. Familiarise yourself with Google Webmaster Tools, Google Analytics and the Google AdTool Keyword Generator.
  3. Install Google Analytics Tracking code on your website and allow some time to pass to identify
  4. Identify content within your site that you wish to focus on. This might be a specific page or the general content of your site.

Use Google Analytics To Generate a Landing Page Keyword List for Your Page

In Google analytics, in the content section, you can identify which keywords are landing your users on a given page. These keywords are already working for you, and people have found your page using these keywords. You can export these into CSV (Comma Seperated Text) or Excel. Save this file as your will need it later.

Use Google Adwords Keyword Tool To Find Alternative Keywords

Using your list of keywords derived from google analytics, you now need to find your alternatives. Paste in your list of current keywords and when you see a list of alternatives select all of your new keywords into the right pane. Now download your alternatives into a text file.

Now, Work out the differences between the Keyword Lists

Using our Keyword Comparison Tool, you can simply enter the list of existing keywords on the left, and the new list of keywords on the right (enter on keyword/phrase per line). Press Go, and you will see a final list of which keywords are recommended to be added to your page, ordered by the number of times the Keyword appeared in the list.

Finally, apply your Keywords

You do not want to simply start embedding keywords by copying and pasting them all over the place on your site. Google and other search engines generally see this is a "black hat" technique and you run the risk of having your rankings lowered or even removed altogether. You need to make minor adjustments to your content to incorporate the new phrases e.g.

If you want to buy apples then visit the supermarket.

becomes:

Your supermarket sells a range of apple varieties which you can buy, such as cox, pink lady and braeburn.

Dont forget to apply basic search engine optimisation techniques using the same basic method incorporate new keywords into your page titles, headings, image alt tags and href titles.
